Liberal Democrat Councillor for Abingdon East, Lesley Legge, was elected Chairman of the County Council on Tuesday 4th April. Lesley grew up in Lichfield, Staffordshire. She has a degree in mathematics and applied physics from the University of Durham. She worked at a pioneering computer company designing air traffic control simulation programmes and as a computer manager at the Royal National Institute for the Blind co-ordinating a new way of translating books into braille before having her children. She gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at London University in 1992 and taught maths for eight years at a south Oxfordshire secondary school. She has lived in Abingdon since 1979 and has been a town councillor since 1995. She was Mayor of Abingdon in the millennium year. She is married and her three children were all educated at local county schools in Abingdon.
