MP joins protesters in Downing St petition on Radley Lakes

6.09.34pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 4th Apr 2007

Dr Evan Harris MP will meet his constituents in Downing Street tomorrow (Thursday 5th) where they are presenting a petition to the Prime Minister Tony Blair objecting to plans by RWE NPower to fill Thrupp Lake with pulverised fuel ash.

Local Liberal Democrat MP, Dr Evan Harris, who has supported the protest from the start, said:

"I am delighted that local people, including schoolchildren, are bringing their protest to Westminster, where it needs to be heard.

"Npower should see my presence with the group as an indication of how unhappy I am about the way they are seeking to dump the waste ash, the way they have handled the situation and their failure to find more environmentally friendly ways of disposing of the ash"

"The Government needs to ensure that it is more cost effective to recycle such products than to dump them"
